When we started house sitting, we really had no idea what we were doing, except taking care of a home and pets. Now, we realize what is needed to be a successful sitter.
Resourceful: Things can go wrong, break, animals become ill, and you must be willing to solve the problem.
Positive: Things will be good, even though they are different.
Sense of Humor: Laughter is the best medicine.
Risk Taker: You have just traveled thousands of miles after receiving a few emails, pictures and if you are lucky, a phone call.
Attention to Detail: Most homeowners have a set way of doing things and want you to continue the routine. Even if it isn't the way you do things, their way should be followed.
Honesty: You are being trusted with someone's home and treasured possessions, treat them gently.
Generous: We always try to leave the house cleaner than we found it. A small gift from where we live, as a thank you for allowing us to take care of the home and pets. We also try to have a meal prepared for the homeowners upon their return.
Animal lover: Having their Fur Family taken care of is the Number 1 reason people seek house sitters. If you don't love animals, this is probably not the job for you.
